Advent: days 2 and 3

Sorry I dropped the ball so soon. It's the week before finals and everything is in overdrive here. Anyway. You get two verses and prompts. So here it goes.

Promt 1:
Write a diary entry dated ten years in the future.

Prompt 2:
Write a quick love story. It has to end badly.

And the verses are

Verse 1:
"But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times." - Micah 5:2

Verse 2:
"Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel. - Isaiah 7:14

Merry Christmas.

The Advent

The word advent mean sthe arrival of an important person or event. As a kid in my house we always were taught that Christmas is about the birth of Christ. Of course as an adult who also labels herself a Christian, that is still my belief. Whether Jesus was born in March or September is debated, but no one debates the fact that December 25 is the day chosen to represent that monumental occasion. So that brings me back to the idea of the advent.

Many people will buy advent calendars for the days leading up to the 25. For most people it is just a fun excuse to celebrate Christmas every day in December, but it should be so much more then that. The advent started as the anticipation of the birth of Christ. I'm not going to say that I'm any less guilty of making Christmas about the fun parts of the season, but I'm going to try this Christmas to make sure I focus on Christ and His impending advent back to retrieve His people.

So every day this December in the spirit of Advent celebration, I am doing writing prompts and reading advent themed verses. I'll post them here until Christmas.

Today's verse: "And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together, for the mouth of the LORD has spoken." - Isaiah 40:5

And the writing prompt is:
"What is your favorite work of art? What do you love about it?"

So have a merry Christmas. I'll see you tomorrow.

Update

I've been struggling to write something on here, just to put it up, just to say that I keep it updated, but I don't think that's a good idea. I want to write in order for people to engage with art and culture and even God. There is purpose behind what is said. If I just update this thing just to keep it updated then it's meaningless. I want to keep up and do what I'm supposed to do, but if it's not about engaging, then what's the point?

I'm not saying any of this to justify times when I don't update, because there will be times that I don't update. I'm just saying that if you take your time out to read this then I want it to be worth the breath you spent on it. That's all I really have to say.

While writing i was listening to the Lumineers. Give them a listen.

It Was 1950

I used to blog every day (or close to it), but I guess college got in the way. But this is a result of friends saying I should reclaim my love for it and a desire to have a place to write.

The year was 1950. Dylan Thomas first read poetry in the U.S.. My grandparents got married. And a book was published. This book would be the first of several in a series. It would eventually be one of those books parents read to their children. This book was The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis. It would go on to become classic literature and the favorite of children around the world. Including me.

So why are these stories special? Why would a college student name a blog after them? Well, these stories are TRUE. They may not be what people perceive as real, but they are TRUE. The difference between this TRUTH and the truth that I am in college is all in the humanity and representation of something bigger. These stories show the capacity God has for love and grace and sacrifice. Those are the ultimate TRUTHS. And if a story reaches beyond the perception of reality the way this story does, it represents a greater TRUTH than we see every day. That is what we like to refer to as Deep Magic. This story is filled with the Deepest Magic and ultimate TRUTH.
So that's why this is The 1950. I'll post about this more in depth later on, but for now I'll let that sink in. I'm on mobile so I can't attach a playlist, but while writing I listened to "Wait" by M83, and "For My Help" by Hayden Calnin.
